A race with a reasonable pace, with no final percentages over 100% and all energy distributions greater than 1.0. The obvious standouts are New Providence and Kasbah, both with ranking numbers better than their ultimate finishing positions.

The Pinsent Masons Lowther Stakes

A Group 2 race for 2 year-old fillies over 6 furlongs.

9 Lady Gemini 91.670 9 1.306 9.0

Another 2 year-old race over 6 furlongs, although of higher class, and on which can be directly compared with the previous race. Three horses with a final percentage greater than 97%, compared with just one in the opener, is indicative of a higher quality race. The winner, Tiggy Wiggy ran well, but the horse with higher ranking, Cursory Glance is perhaps the one to follow from here.

Short Squeeze, who won, is the only horse to exceed 100% for the final percentage and less than 1.0 for energy distribution. While it may appear that Bronze Angel ran well, ranking second but finishing fourth, in the context of the race his figures are well behind Short Squeeze. If anything, Parbold, who was much further down the finishing order, but much closer in calculated numbers to Bronze Angel than Bronze Angel to Short Squeeze, is worth following. However, Parbold is already on the horses to follow list after a similar effort at the Newmarket July meeting and didn't particularly improve today.

Tapestry beats the odds on favourite Taghrooda, and according to the numbers did so reasonably comfortably. Tasaday may have appeared a threat with 2 furlongs remaining, but faded badly in the final 200 yards.

Queen of Ice is only the second horse in two days of racing, thus far in the 2014 Ebor festival, to win a race with a Final Percentage ranking of greater than 2. Felix Leiter also did so yesterday. However, these two races are almost a complete opposite. Felix Leiter yesterday ran in a 6 furlong event, with no horse posting a final percentage in excess of 100%, and today Queen of Ice's race was much longer with every horse posting a final percentage in excess of 102%. Rather than marvelling at Queen of Ice's performance, I'd rather follow Arabian Comet and Island Remede whose rankings in both final percentage and energy distribution were higher than their finishing positions.

Another race with more energy used in the early stages than the latter. Perhaps the most interesting race of the day regarding proposed horses to subsequently follow. Little Shambles appeared to run well, with a strong burst into the final three furlongs, before fading badly in the last. Although Little Shambles' final percentages rank is only 6, energy distribution is ranked at 3.5, which could be encouraging for future efforts.. Dusky Queen, topping the final percentages and ranking second for energy distribution, certainly has figures outgunning her fourth placed finish. These are the two horses catching the eye from this race. Much further down, Azagal may have claims in a race with a weaker early pace.
